INTERESTS

 

· Measurement, evaluation and assessment in education.

· Comparative studies on (mathematics) education (evaluation of student's achievement, etc.).

· Information technologies in education.

· Didactics of mathematics (curriculum development, methods of assessment, methodologies for teacher training, etc.).

· Methods and organization of extracurricular work on mathematics with gifted and talented students from the Junior Secondary School level (10 years old) to the end of the Secondary School (which mathematics is appropriate, teacher training, journals, creating problems, problem solving, organization and preparation of the students for mathematics competition, etc.).

· Combinatorial mathematics (combinatorial geometry).

 

SCINTIFIC PROJECTS

In Bulgaria:

· From March till November 2012 I worked for the project “For Better Education” in the EU Program “Human Resource Development” for the development of curriculum for profile education on mathematics, grades 11 and 12. The Project is administered by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Science in Bulgaria.

· Coordinator of the national assessment at the end of Grade 4 in Bulgariaproject of the Center for Control and Assessment of the Quality in School Education (CKOKUO)since 2008.

· Coordinator of Activity 2 “Development of a Framework for External Assessment and Methodology for Construction of Reliable and Valid Instruments for Assessmentat the ProjectDevelopment of a System for Assessment of School Educationof the Program “Human Resource Development” at the European Social Fund. The Project is under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth and the Center for Control and Assessment of the Quality in School Education (CKOKUO)2009-2010 ã.

· National Consultant on MES-5 project “Advising on the Use of National Assessment Data for Quality Improvement at the School and Classroom Level” for SPAN Consultants – 2008.

· Director of the following studies at the FoundScientific Investigations”, University of Sofia: (1) contracts 628/2003 è 18/2004 “Development of Methods, Technologies and Instruments for Assessment of StudentsAchievement on Mathematics, Informatics and IT”; (2) contract 25/2006 “Technologies for Education on Mathematics and Informatics”; (3) contract 34/2007 “Educational Research on Mathematics and Informatics”.

· Director of the contract No. 629 îò 17.12.2003 “Open Society” Foundation and University of Sofia on “Development of Strategy for External Assessment of the Attainment Level of the National Education Content Standards at the End of the Primary and Lower Secondary School on Bulgarian Language and Literature and Mathematics” – December 2003 – September 2004.

· Coordinator of the Ministry of Education project for preparation of a national test examination for entrance of the profile schools after finishing grade 7 – from 1998 till 2001.

 

International Projects:

 

· Senior Research Coordinator on mathematics, mathematics pedagogy and curriculum analysis at the International Study Center for FIRSTMATH study at the College of Education at Michigan State University, USA – from 2010 till 2015.

· Senior Research Coordinator on mathematics, mathematics pedagogy knowledge and opportunities to learn at the International Study Center for the IEA TEDS-M study, College of Education at Michigan State University, USAfrom 2006 till 2010 ã.

· National Research Coordinator for Bulgaria in the international study for mathematics teacher preparation MT21. This study is conducted by the Michigan State University (USA) and is funded by the National Science Foundationfrom 2003 till 2010 ã.

· National Research Coordinator for Bulgaria in the international project IEANCEE for Central and Eastern Europe from 1993 till 1996.

· National Research Coordinator for Bulgaria in the IEA TIMSS studyfrom 1991 till 2006 ã.

 

 

CONSULTANCY AND EXPERT GROUPS

 

· External Examiner for the Master of Science in Mathematics Teaching Course of Study in the Faculty of Science and Sport at the University of Technology in Jamaica, since 2016.

· From November 2016 till November 2017 I worked as a consultant on the Bulgarian Ministry of Education project for estimation of schools’ value-added. The project was developed by the Bulgarian Association for Educational Measurement and Evaluation with the cooperation of the World Bank. The project was renewed till 2019.

· From March till July 2016 I worked as a consultant on a project of the Ministry of Education in Peru (Contrato N° 019 -2016-SWAP) “Capacity Development Service in the Pedagogical Knowledge of the Mathematics Area”.

· From April 2014 till May 2015 I worked as a consultant on the World Bank project (Contract 7171062) “Piloting Statistical Models for Estimation of Schools’ Value-Added Using the Results from the National Assessments”. The project was developed by the Bulgarian Association for Educational Measurement and Evaluation.

· From March till May 2013 I worked as a consultant on the World Bank project (Contract 7166322)Support to the Bulgarian Ministry of Education, Youth and Science for Estimating the School Value-Added measure of school Performance Using the Results from the National Assessments” for SPAN Consultants. The project was developed by the Bulgarian Association for Educational Measurement and Evaluation.

· From February till April 2008 I worked as a national consultant on MES-5 project Advising on the Use of National Assessment Data for Quality Improvement at the School and Classroom Level” for SPAN Consultants.

· World Bank International Consultant at the Assessment and Testing Center in Armeniafrom 2007 till 2008.

· World Bank International Consultant on the methods and technologies of PISA study, Kirgizstan, 2005.

· World Bank International Consultant on assessment of studentsachievement at the Education Modernization Project in Tajikistan, 2003.

· Member of the international Expert Panel of the IEA TEDS-M study from 2003 till 2006 ã.

· Member of the international Expert Panel of the IEA TIMSS studysince 2000.

· International Expert in the project “Support to curricular reform in Croatia, Phase 4” conducted by the British Council, from April 2021 till August 2022.

· National Expert in the project “Successful PISA stories in the EU, how some Member States have been able to improve their performance over time” conducted by PPMI GROUP, UAB, Lithuania, from April till July 2021.
